Study Guide for Sasha Test #1

Test Prep #1
Sasha’s Science Class

Vocabulary:
Atom: the fundamental unit of matter in the universe, made up of a nucleus of protons and neutrons and orbiting electrons.
Element: an atom with a unique number of protons. A molecule made up of only one kind of atom.
Molecule: a group of atoms bonded together. Either an element or a compound.
Compound: a group of different atoms bonded together.
Isotope: atoms that have more or less neutrons than protons.
Ion: an atom with more or less electrons than protons.
Density: The amount of mass to a specific volume. Mass divided by Volume = Density.
Surface Tension: If you have this deffinition please comment them to myself
Air Pressure: Same as above. Thanks.

Fundamental Difference Between Atoms:
Each element is made up of a specific atom with a unique number of protons.

How the Periodic Table is organized and how it is Useful:
Can anyone help me out?

The Difference between Atomic Number and Atomic Mass:
The atomic number of an element is determined by the number of protons in its nucleus, whereas the atomic mass is the average mass of the element.

The Uncertainty Principle:
The theory that it is impossible to know precisely the location and velocity of electrons at the same time.
You cannot measure the object without changing it in the process.

The Quantum Theory:
The theory that explains matter and energy at atomic and sub-atomic levels, sometimes called Quantum Mechanics.

The Strong Nuclear Force holds a nucleus together.
The Intra-molecular Force holds individual atoms together to make molecules.
The Inter-molecular Force holds individual molecules together to make substances.
